ODC team attended the ‘7th National Consultation Workshop on the Draft of the Environment and Natural Resource Code of the Kingdom of Cambodia’

The event held at Sofitel Phokeethra Hotel on Thursday, 22 March 2018, was  the final workshop of the public consultation process to develop the Code prior to its enactment. This workshop was cooperatively organized by Ministry of Environment and the Vishnu Law Group Approximately 400 participants appeared in this consultation workshop including relevant ministries, local and international organization, private sectors and communities’ representatives.

The opening remark was made by H.E Khut Chandara, Undersecretary of State of the Ministry of Environment and the Head of the Working Group for the Review and Revision of the Draft Environment and Natural Resources Code. On behalf of H.E. Dr Say Samal, Minister of Environment, he noted that this workshop is for giving update on the public consultation on  the environmental and natural resource code to all stakeholders. The process started in 2015 and has already included 11 consultations with national government and local communities. Adding to this, this 10th drafted version of Environmental Code has been open for public to share their comments with the deadline on 22nd March 2018.

This workshop follows by the presentations on different topics mentioned in the Tenth Draft (draft 10). The presentations given at the workshop highlighted such important parts of the draft as the General Content of the Environment and Natural Resource Code, Waste and Pollution Management, Environmental Education and Research, Climate Change, General Principles of Environment and Natural Resources Code, Environmental and Natural Resources Dispute and Resolution Mechanism. Those presentations made to inform the public about the details of the code with respect to each particular topic, bring more inputs, and consider suggestions offered by the public in order to improve the draft of environmental code to be more consistent, comprehensive and effective in implementation.
